Meat
Kent's blog on BBQ sent me off on a reverie on meaty writing. I am a carnivore and while I feel I should be a vegetarian, it's simply not possible.1) Calvin Trillan, The Tummy Trilogy-- a chapter dedicated to pulled BBQ
2) Fannie Flag, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle stop Cafe--Pork BBQ, of sorts, features in it
3) Jeffrey Steingarten-- when ever I feel down, I read Jeffrey Steingarten, as it's impossible not to laugh at his single minded obsessiveness about food. This guy even beats Kent in the lengths he will go to for a good meal (including nearly setting fire to his kitchen to get his oven past 700 degrees by breaking the thermistor). I forget which book (It Must Have been Something I Ate, and The Man who Ate Everything ) has a chapter on dry aging meat, which he tries to do at home, in the back of his fridge. Really.
